Camping Cuisine – Pastrami and Swiss on Rye

Camping Cuisine - Pastrami and Swiss on RyeI wanted to make something healthy yet hearty for lunch so I decided on Pastrami sandwiches on rye bread with Swiss cheese and tomato slices. I served it with hummus, crackers, carrots, and leftover pasta salad. It was a flavorful lunch and really tasted good. Grilling the sandwiches made them extra tasty and I loved the different textures – soft and gooey inside and crisp outside. Simple, quick and so delicious.

Pastrami and Swiss on Rye:

Ingredients:

  • Rye Bread
  • Mayonnaise, to taste
  • Mustard, to taste
  • Pastrami, as much as you want
  • Tomato slices
  • Onions Slices
  • Swiss cheese

How to Make a Pastrami and Swiss on Rye

Spread mayonnaise and mustard on each side of bread. Layer with pastrami, tomato slices, onions, and finally the cheese, and top with an additional slice of bread.

Place sandwich on a dry skillet over medium flame. Cook for 2-3 minutes per side or until golden brown and the cheese is melted & gooey. Enjoy!

  1. I love a good hot pastrami on rye! Can’t stand camping, but it has to be all the better with pastrami on your side!

  2. Pastrami is my son’s current favorite sandwich meat! You could write a camping cookbook! You have fresh cherries on that plate, too! You’ll have to tell us how you organize/plan out your camping meals. *sigh* Somehow, corn flakes for breakfast along with roasted wieners isn’t going to cut it for me anymore!
