Mom’s Dinner Rolls

Mom's Dinner RollsMy mother makes the most amazing dinner rolls. I finally got the recipe from her and made my first attempt at baking these delicious rolls. They are extremely easy to make using a bread machine. My mom is at a much higher elevation so she cooks her rolls for 12-15 minutes, but since we are near sea level, I cooked mine for 8-10 minutes. They are light, fluffy and so delicious. I can’t tell you how wonderful these rolls are fresh from the oven with butter. I could eat way too many of them. Thanks for the great recipe, Mom!

Mom’s Dinner Rolls:

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup of water
  • 2 tbsp of butter, softened
  • 1 egg (hold under warm water before breaking it)
  • 3 1/4 cup of bread flour
  • 1/4 cup of sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 3 tsp regular active dry yeast

Place all dough ingredients in the bread machine in the order listed. Select the dough cycle and press start. Once the bread machine stops (it was one and a half hours on my machine).

Grease a baking sheet. Divide dough into 15 pieces and shape each piece into a ball. Place 2 inches apart on a baking sheet or in a baking dish.

Brush with butter then cover; let rise in a warm place for 30 to 40 minutes or until doubled in size.

Preheat the oven to 375 degrees. Coat an 8 x 13 baking dish or baking sheet with cooking spray.

Bake for 8-10 minutes or until golden brown. Enjoy.

  1. Thank you for this wonderful recipe! I’ve made it three times already and plan to use it as an all-purpose roll now that I’m working on giving up processed foods.

  2. I LOVE these rolls and have made them several times. My bread machine just broke and I’m not experienced with bread making. Is there instructions without using the bread machine?

    Thank you!

    1. Marcy,

I’m so happy you enjoy my mom’s dinner rolls. Sorry to hear about your bread machine.

      1. In a small bowl add warm water.
      2. Sprinkle in the yeast and 1/4 teaspoon of sugar.
      3. Stir gently until combined.
      4. Let mixture rest for 10 minutes until foamy.
      5. Pour the yeast mixture into a large bowl and add the remaining sugar, beaten egg, salt, and butter.
      6. Mix until well combined.
      7. Gradually add in flour, mixing well after each addition. (use a rubber spatula once the mixture becomes a sticky dough).
      8. Transfer dough to a large, greased bowl.
      9. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and place in a warm, draft-free area for about 2 hours or until doubled in size.
      10. Finish as normal.

I still only use my bread machine so I’ve never tried this method. I hope it helps.
