I just gave our dog Grace her last dog treat from the freezer this past weekend so I made her a new batch today. I found a recipe for these homemade peanut butter and bacon dog treats on Sally’s Baking Addiction that I knew Grace would love because it features two of her VERY favorite things – peanut butter and bacon. I really liked that there are just a few ingredients in these homemade dog treats and they were super simple to make. My daughter actually thought I was baking the family something because they smelled so delicious while they baked! Grace was seriously drooling when I gave her the first treat – she devoured it in seconds and made sure to find any little crumb left behind. I’d say that’s a success.
Preheat the oven to 325 degrees. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
Cook bacon in a skillet over medium heat until golden brown; drain paper towels. Chop into bits.
Whisk together the peanut butter, milk, and egg until well combined.
In a separate bowl, combine the flour and the baking powder; mix well.
Add the flour mixture to the peanut butter mixture until combined. Add the oats and bacon bits; mix well. The dough is thick and heavy.
Working on a lightly floured surface, knead the dough 3-4 times until it comes together. Using a rolling pin, roll the dough to 1/4-inch thickness.
Use a dog treat cutter to cut out the desired shape and place it onto the prepared baking sheet.
Place into oven and bake until the edges are golden brown, about 20-25 minutes. Remove from the oven and allow to cool completely on a wire rack.
Store in a sealed container in the refrigerator or freezer. My dog loves them right out of the freezer – especially on hot days! Enjoy.

- 3 strips of bacon cooked & chopped into bits

I’m wondering if recipe should read 1 tsp of baking powder instead of 1 tbsp as t tablespoon seems excessive and potentially very salty bitter for the dog. Sylvia
No, it’s supposed to be 1 tablespoon which is what the original recipe called for. My dog absolutely LOVED these treats so I assume they didn’t taste salty & bitter.

Wondering if these are soft or semi-soft treats. My dog is small and old so he has a hard time munching on hard/crunchy treats.

They actually don’t get really crisp until you refrigerate or freeze them. I would still keep them in the refrigerator (so they last longer) but maybe just let them warm up a bit before serving to your dog. I hope your little one loves them as much as my Grace does!

Make these all the time for my daughters dog they call them nana cookies he lives them so much so turns his nose up at store bought cookies. When you say nana cookies he goes crazy. I add 2-3 tablespoons extra milk and I stopped rolling them and just make balls and flatten with a glass. Thank you. For the recipe
