Pear Sauce

Pear Sauce

I had several pears in the fruit bowl that weren’t getting eaten so I decided to make some pear sauce with them. I’ve had a craving for some pork chops lately and what would pair better than some delicious creamy pear sauce? I happened to make this sauce on an afternoon when my son had a buddy over so they both had a bowl of this creamy sweet sauce and agreed it was delicious and most definitely blog-worthy. Thankfully, they left some for our pork chops!

Pear Sauce

How to Make Pear Sauce

Place the diced pear in a saucepan over medium-high heat with the water, sugar, lemon juice, cinnamon, and vanilla. Bring to a boil then reduce heat, cover with a lid, and simmer, stirring occasionally until softened, about 25-30 minutes.

Remove from the heat and blend with an immersion blender (or blender) until smooth and creamy. Serve warm or cold.

Store sealed in an airtight container in the refrigerator for a week. Enjoy.

  1. Im fixing to use this recipe, thank you. I received about 15#s from a neighbor and there was no way our family of 3 could gobble them up so ,,,here we go.
I report back after and let you know.

  2. Try mixing pears with apples. It a cool twist. Use apple juice instead of water and use brown sugar instead of white sugar. Don’t mash too much. Have it a little on the chunky side.

  3. I am getting ready to make this on this fall Friday :-). Do you know if this freezes well? Our neighbor has a pear tree so we have an abundant supply (blessed, yes), I have restaurant type plastic containers that seal really well, TIA!!!

    1. Jane,

I’ve never tried to freeze it but if I did, I would ladle the pear sauce into clean freezer jars, leaving 1/2-inch of headspace in pint jars and 1-inch of headspace in quart jars. Seal the jars really well, and allow them to cool completely before freezing. Please let me know how it turns out.

Well….I didn’t have the jars available so I used commercial plastic containers. We shall see, but I plan on using fairly quickly. ‘Going to try substituting for oil and also pumpkin in bread recipe. Thanks for getting back to me! May God bless your work!

    1. Debbie,

Yes, you can! To freeze pear sauce, use freezer-safe jars or plastic containers and freeze for up to a year. I hope this helps and that you enjoy the pear sauce.

    1. Jennifer,

I’ve never tried processing and canning before, so I’m not certain how it would turn out, but I assume it would work. Please let me know if you give it a try.
