Onion Bacon Jam

Onion Bacon Jam

I made this sweet & delicious onion bacon jam the same day I found the recipe on I am Baker because it looked amazing and I happened to have all the ingredients on hand. I love it when that happens! I’ve had bacon jam on a burger before and it was really tasty so I was excited to give this recipe a try. This onion bacon jam took about 30 minutes to make and made my house smell amazing! We had a smorgasbord for dinner recently and I served this bacon jam with some softened brie and sliced baguette–they paired beautifully together. I really loved the combination of sweet and salty onion bacon jam with the creamy cheese & fresh bread.

How to Make Onion Bacon Jam

Cook the bacon pieces in a skillet over medium-high heat until crispy. Remove from the skillet and place on a paper towel lined plate. Chop into small bits.

Remove all but two tablespoons of bacon grease from the skillet and reduce the heat to medium. Add the onion and cook, stirring occasionally, for 5 minutes. Add the shallot and cook, stirring often, for another 10-15 minutes, or until caramelized. Add the minced garlic and chili powder then cook, stirring constantly, for 1 minute. Add the brown sugar, vinegar, maple syrup, bacon bits, and a small pinch of salt.

Simmer, stirring often, for 10 minutes or until the mixture has thickened. Serve warm or at room temperature. Store in an airtight jar in the refrigerator. Enjoy.
