This quick and easy recipe for homemade banana dog treats uses only four ingredients and will make your pup very happy.

Banana Dog Treats

Grace was out of dog treats so I found an easy banana dog treats recipe on Three Olives Branch that I thought she would love. I followed the recipe as written but needed to add a little flour while rolling because it was too wet & sticky. These homemade oat, chia seed, and banana dog treats were a huge hit with Grace and she devoured two in seconds.

Banana Dog Treats

Ingredients:

  • 3½ cups of old-fashioned oats
  • 3 over-ripe bananas
  • 1 tbsp chia seeds
  • 2 tsp cinnamon

How to Make Homemade Banana Dog Treats

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Blend the 2½ cups of oats in a food processor until it’s a flour-like consistency. Place the ground oats in the large mixing bowl along with the remaining 1 cup of oats.

Mash the bananas very well then add to the oat mixture along with the chia seeds and cinnamon; mix until well combined.  Side Note: You may need to add more oats if the dough is too wet–you want the dough to hold together but not be sticky or wet.

Roll out on a floured surface until ¼-inch thick, then using your desired cookie cutter, cut out the treat shapes, and place them on the prepared baking sheet.

Banana Dog Treats

Place into the oven to bake for 15-20 minutes, or until golden brown and crisp.

Remove from the oven and allow them to cool on the baking sheet for 10 minutes before moving them to a rack to finish cooling.

Homemade Banana Dog Treat Storing Options:

  • Store in an airtight container at room temperature for 1 week.
  • Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 2 weeks.
  • Store in an airtight container in the freezer for up to two months.

I always store my homemade dog treats in the freezer and Grace enjoys her treats straight from the freezer.

Frozen Cantaloupe Dog Treats

I needed to make some new dog treats so I made Grace these easy frozen cantaloupe dog treats (pupsicles) since it’s been such a hot summer.  This was Gracie’s first time having canteloupe but it definitely won’t be the last! She devoured two treats immediately and was eyeing me for more.

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cantaloupe melon, seeds & skin removed, cut into chunks
  • 1/2 cup Greek yogurt

Frozen Cantaloupe Dog Treats

Inspired by the flavors of carrot cake, these tasty oat carrot cake dog treats are sure to make your dog happy.

Oat Carrot Cake Dog Treats

Grace ran out of treats recently so I made a batch of these oat carrot cake dog treats I found online at Three Olives Branch. I had to adapt the recipe a bit by needing to add 1/4 cup of flour to the dough because it was too sticky and I used black chia seed instead of flax seed because that’s what I had on hand. This easy recipe for homemade dog treats was simple to make, smelled good while they baked, and made Gracie very happy.

Oat Carrot Cake Dog Treats

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups oats, divided
  • 1 1/2 cups carrots, peeled and shredded
  • 1/4 cup flour
  • 1/4 cup plain Greek yogurt
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tbsp coconut oil, melted
  • 2 tbsp black chia seed (or flax seed), optional
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp ground ginger

Oat Carrot Cake Dog Treats

How to Make Oat Carrot Cake Dog Treats

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Place 1 cup of the oats into a food processor and blend until it becomes a flour-like consistency. Pour into a large mixing bowl.

Add the remaining cup of oats, shredded carrot, flour, Greek yogurt, egg, coconut oil, black chia seed, ground cinnamon, and ginger, and mix until well combined. Side Note: If the mixture is too sticky, lightly dust the surface with flour or additional ground oats.

Using a rolling pin, roll out the dough to approximately 1/4-inch thick. Use your desired dog treat cutter to cut out the treat shapes and place them on the prepared baking sheet.

Oat Carrot Cake Dog Treats

Place into the oven to bake for 20, rotating the tray halfway through cooking, until golden brown. For extra crunchy treats, turn off the oven, leave the dog treats inside, and let them sit for two hours. For softer cookies, remove them after 15-20 minutes to cool at room temperature.

Oat Carrot Cake Dog Treats

Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for two weeks or in the freezer for up to 2 months. Side Note: We always freeze our homemade treats and Grace enjoys them straight from the freezer.

Frozen Pumpkin Peanut Butter Dog Treats

We just celebrated Grace’s 10-year gotcha date and I surprised her with these frozen pumpkin peanut butter dog treats from a recipe I found on Eat the Gains. I love that this frozen puppy treats recipe only uses a few ingredients–canned pumpkin, peanut butter, coconut oil, and cinnamon. Grace excitedly licked the bowl clean while the treats were setting up in the freezer and she devoured two once they were ready.

Side Note: Make sure the peanut butter you use doesn’t have Xylitol in it. It’s a sweetener used in many foods, including peanut butter, and is safe for humans but potentially deadly for dogs. If ingested, it can cause seizures, liver failure, and death, warned one animal hospital, which called xylitol “extremely toxic” to dogs.

Chicken and Sweet Potato Dog Treats

Grace was out of treats so I made these chicken and sweet potato dog treats for her. Making dog treats at home is so easy and our sweet girl just loves them! For this simple homemade dog treat recipe, I used some flour, oats, leftover chicken, mashed sweet potato, and an egg. I baked them until crispy and once cooled, Grace devoured one and begged me for a second one immediately.

Chicken and Sweet Potato Dog Treats

How to Make Chicken and Sweet Potato Dog Treats

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Boil the peeled sweet potato over medium-high heat in a small saucepan until very tender, about 10-12 minutes. Drain and mash the potato until creamy. Set aside to cool.

Once the potato has cooled, add the flour, oats, well-beaten egg, chopped chicken, fresh parsley, and salt. Mix until well combined. Add a touch more flour, if the dough is too wet.

Working on a floured surface, knead the dough 3-4 times until it comes together. Using a rolling pin, roll the dough to 1/4-inch thickness. Using dog treat cutters, cut out desired shapes, and place them on the prepared baking sheet.

Bake until golden brown and crisp, about 25-30 minutes.

Cool completely on a wire rack, they will continue to harden as they cool.

Store in an airtight container in the freezer or refrigerator. Enjoy.

Watermelon Blueberry Yogurt Bites

We have had a heatwave for a few weeks now and it doesn’t seem to be ending anytime soon. Grace needed some new frozen treats to help keep her cool so I went to see what we had on hand. We had some watermelon that nobody seemed to be eating in the fridge, a handful of blueberries, and a little bit of Greek yogurt so I made these frozen watermelon blueberry yogurt bites for her. These frozen dog treats were a tad bit messy to make, but Grace was so excited & happy with the treats, it made it worth the extra effort.

Frozen Strawberry Banana Dog Treats

It has been very hot the past few days and I’ve been needing to walk our dog Grace early in the morning before it gets too hot for her paws. I also made her a batch of these frozen strawberry banana dog treats to give her a tasty treat after our walks. Luckily, my grocery store recently had an incredible sale on strawberries but if your store doesn’t, frozen berries work great too. Grace LOVES these frozen dog treats and always hopes I give her more than one. Side Note: This strawberry banana mixture makes delicious frozen treats/popsicles for people too!

Simple homemade dog treats featuring sweet potato, bacon crumbles, parsley, and oats that your pup will love.

Sweet Potato and Bacon Dog Treats

We got our beloved dog Grace 9 years ago this week! She has been such a special and wonderful addition to our family and we all think she is the best dog in the world. In honor of her gotcha-date anniversary, I decided to make her these sweet potato and bacon dog treats instead of her recent favorites–sweet potato dog chews & frozen peanut butter & banana treats. She really loves sweet potatoes & bacon so I made some dog treats using them along with some oats and parsley. Grace literally drooled while I was trying to take a photo of her with these treats & she begged (I swear!) for a second one which she happily devoured.

How to Make Sweet Potato and Oatmeal Dog Treats

Cook the bacon in a large skillet over medium heat until golden brown and crispy. Remove from the heat and place on paper towels to drain then crumble into small bits; set aside.

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Boil the sweet potato over medium-high heat until very tender, about 10-12 minutes. Drain and mash the potato until creamy. Set aside to cool.

Once the potato has cooled, add the flour, oats, well-beaten egg, bacon bits, and parsley.

Sweet Potato Dog Chews

Grace ran out of dog treats last week so I decided to make her a new batch this week. Instead of her regular baked or frozen treats, I decided to make her some sweet potato dog chews from a recipe I found on It Doesn’t Taste Like Chicken.

Sweet potatoes are a great treat option for dogs since they are low in calories, provide a good source of fiber, and they contain vitamins A, B6, and C, as well as other important minerals including potassium and iron. These natural dog chews are also a great alternative to rawhide which makes my dog’s stomach upset. While doing some research, I discovered that potato peels are not good for a dog’s stomach and can be hard for them to digest so I made sure to peel the potatoes before I dehydrated them low and slow in the oven for about 3 hours.  Grace absolutely LOVES them and I have a feeling your dog will too!

How to Make Sweet Potato Dog Chews

Preheat the oven to 250 degrees. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Peel the sweet potatoes then use a knife or mandoline to cut each sweet potato into 1/4-inch slices.  Side Note: You can cut them lengthwise for bigger dogs and into coins for medium to small dogs.

Sweet Potato Dog Chews

Arrange them in a single layer on the baking sheet and bake for 2 1/2-3 hours flipping them halfway through baking until they are shrunken and dried out. Some smaller pieces may be a little crispy but still very tasty.

Sweet Potato Dog Chews

Let the sweet potatoes cool completely before storing them in an air-tight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 weeks or store them in a sealed ziplock bag in the freezer for a couple of months. Enjoy!

The easiest homemade dog treats ever–simply mix three ingredients, roll, and cut. So easy to make, and so much healthier than store-bought!

Pumpkin Peanut Butter Dog Treats

Our sweet dog ate the last of her homemade dog treats recently so I made her a new batch from a recipe I found on Cardomon and Coconut. I love that this recipe has three ingredients and couldn’t be easier to make. Grace was thrilled with her new pumpkin peanut butter dog treats and ate two in one sitting and looked at me longingly for more–I’d say she likes them.

Side Note: Remember to double-check that your peanut butter does NOT contain Xylitol. This sweetener is highly toxic to dogs.

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Line a baking sheet with a Silpat mat or parchment paper.

Place the flour, pumpkin, and peanut butter in a large bowl until combined.

Working on a piece of floured parchment paper or a flat surface, knead the dough 3-4 times until it comes together. Using a rolling pin, roll the dough to 1/4-inch thickness.

Using dog treat cutters, cut out desired shapes, and place them on the prepared baking sheet.

Bake until golden brown and crisp, about 30-35 minutes. Cool completely on a wire rack.  Store in an airtight container in the freezer or refrigerator. Enjoy.
