Pumpkin Peanut Butter Dog Treats

The easiest homemade dog treats ever–simply mix three ingredients, roll, and cut. So easy to make, and so much healthier than store-bought!

Our sweet dog ate the last of her homemade dog treats recently so I made her a new batch from a recipe I found on Cardomon and Coconut. I love that this recipe has three ingredients and couldn’t be easier to make. Grace was thrilled with her new pumpkin peanut butter dog treats and ate two in one sitting and looked at me longingly for more–I’d say she likes them.

Side Note: Remember to double-check that your peanut butter does NOT contain Xylitol. This sweetener is highly toxic to dogs.

How to Make Pumpkin Peanut Butter Dog Treats

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Line a baking sheet with a Silpat mat or parchment paper.

Place the flour, pumpkin, and peanut butter in a large bowl until combined.

Working on a piece of floured parchment paper or a flat surface, knead the dough 3-4 times until it comes together. Using a rolling pin, roll the dough to 1/4-inch thickness.

Using dog treat cutters, cut out desired shapes, and place them on the prepared baking sheet.

Bake until golden brown and crisp, about 30-35 minutes. Cool completely on a wire rack.  Store in an airtight container in the freezer or refrigerator. Enjoy.

    I was wondering if these are okay to give to my dog, whom I need to watch her sodium intake. She has congestive heart failure.
    That being said, I did make this recipe today and she LOVED them!!
    I just want to check to see if I could continue making them for her.

    I’ve made these a couple of times now and our son “Blue” absolutely LOVES them! ♡♡♡ My only addition is 1/2 cup of flax seeds.

  7. All your treats look so good! Our dog is old, we had to have all his teeth pulled, he has adapted well was wondering if anyone has a soft treat to make. they are so hard to come by lately .Sorry so long winded lol .thanks

      I’m wondering if the frozen treats may be a good option for him, but maybe let them sit at room temperature for a few minutes to soften up before giving them to him. They would be easier to eat and soothing on the gums. I have a few options- the link is down below.

      My dog is 13 and only has a couple of teeth. I bake these for 15 min @ 350° then turn off the oven and let sit in there for 5 minutes. They come out soft. She loves them!

    Hey, thank you for the great recipe. My dog loved it so much that he would stral the uncooked dough and tried to open the over to grab more ( he couldn’t though)

      I store them in the freezer so they last a couple months. They will last a couple of weeks in the fridge. If you keep them on the counter, they will start to mold within a week or so.

    My dogs love these! I adjust the recipe for 100 servings. Is that 100 cookies? I swap wheat flour for oat flour and i use organic peanut butter. When the cookies are cooled i put them in the freezer. They love them so much i don’t get store bought ones anymore. Out of all the recipes this one is the best. Limited ingredients, and easy to make!

      I have never tried storing them that way. I always bake them and then store them in the freezer for up to 3 months in an airtight container or freezer bag.

  13. This sounds very much what I’ve been looking for and I can’t wait to make these Dog Treats for my sweet girl but was wondering if I could substitute the Wheat Flour for Coconut Flour. Could you advise me on this please.

      I haven’t tried the recipe with those types of flour so I’m not certain how they would turn out, but I have a feeling it would be just fine. Please let me know how they turn out if you give it a try.

    My dog loves these but I think having only 2/3 cup of pumpkin is wasteful One can is 15os. why not use it all? What I do is use 1 full cup of peanut butter, one full can of pumpkin , 3 1/4 cup of bread flour, I tsp cinnamon and (I i/2 tsp flax seeds as recommended by my vet ). The result is perfect and very easy to work with.

    How long will these last in the fridge and the freezer? I’m wondering for both. Thanks 🙂 my doggy loves them. And I love giving him treats that I know the ingredients of. Only thing I switched was using blended up oats instead of wheat flour because he doesn’t eat wheat. Also I’m not sure how his stomach will do with regular flour.

    I have made these at least a half dozen times for my dogs and for the grand dogs. They are a huge hit, and so simple to make! My young grandchildren love to make them with me. Dogs are happy, kiddos are happy, and Gramma is happy!

  18. My boy Goliath (Great Pyrenees) absolutely loves these treats! And they are way way healthier than store brands, if I wanted to sub or add ingredients like oatmeal or something ,
    Do I need to adjust the recipe?

      You can totally add some oats to the mixture. I’d start with half flour and half oats and see how they turn out.

    I triple the recipe to use the full can of pumpkin puree. Makes a lot but they freeze so well it is also efficient time wise. My dog loves them
