Hot Buttered Rum

  • 1 stick of butter 1/2 cup
  • 2/3 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1/8 tsp ground cloves
  • Pinch of salt
  • 4 shots of spiced rum 1.5 oz each
  • 2 cups boiling water more if needed
  • 4 cinnamon sticks


  • Using a hand mixer, beat the butter brown sugar, honey, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, and salt together in a bowl, until creamy and smooth.
  • Transfer the mixture to a large glass measuring cup (at least 4 cups or larger).
  • Add the boiling water to the mixture and stir until the butter mixture dissolves.
  • Add a shot of rum to each mug.
  • Pour the well-mixed butter/water mixture into the mugs evenly.
  • Stir well and serve with a cinnamon stick.
  • Side Note: You may dilute the drinks with more boiling water if it's too sweet.
