Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Line an 8x8 baking dish with a bit of parchment paper, if desired. Lightly spray the baking dish and parchment with cooking spray.
Combine the cherries, sugar, cornstarch, lemon juice, and almond extract in a bowl; mix well and set aside.
Pour the flour, almond flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt together in the bowl of a food processor; pulse until well combined.
Add the chopped butter, egg yolk, and almond extract; pulse until the dough is crumbly.
Press 2/3 of the dough in the bottom of the prepared baking dish to form the crust.
Top the crust with the cherries and their juices.
Crumble the remaining dough evenly over the cherries then top with thinly sliced almonds.
Place into the oven and bake until golden brown and bubbling, about 35-40 minutes, turning the dish halfway through baking.
Remove from the oven and allow to cool on a wire rack until cooled. Cut and serve. Enjoy.
