Fried Cabbage with Bacon
Fried cabbage with bacon is a quick & simple side dish that’s a little bit tangy, salty, and sweet.
I recently made some parmesan pork chops for dinner and wanted to pair them with something different than our usual garlic rice or mashed potatoes. I stumbled upon a recipe for fried cabbage with bacon on The Country Cook that sounded tasty. This delicious side dish was on the table within 30 minutes and it paired so nicely with our crispy pork chops. We liked this fried cabbage so much I may make it again for a St. Patrick’s Day side dish this year.
How to Make Fried Cabbage with Bacon
Cook the bacon in a large skillet over medium heat until crispy, about 5-7 minutes. Place the bacon on paper towels to drain the grease then cut into bits; set side until needed.
Pour the bacon grease into a small dish then wipe out the large skillet with a paper towel. Return the skillet along with 2 tablespoons of reserved bacon grease to the stove over medium-high heat.
Add the onion and cook, stirring often, for 2-3 minutes. Add the cabbage apple cider vinegar, sea salt, freshly cracked black pepper, and a pinch of brown sugar then cook, stirring often for 8-10 minutes, or until wilted.
Add the garlic and cook, stirring constantly for 1 minute. Taste and re-season with additional apple cider vinegar, sea salt, and/or freshly cracked black pepper, if needed.
Add the bacon bits and toss to combine then pour into a serving bowl and serve immediately. Enjoy.

Bacon makes everything tastier 🙂
Looks very good Pam and a dish we’ve made a couple of times in the recent past – once with bacon and once with Cajun sausage.
