Broiled Grapefruit with Caramelized Sugar
I would never have thought to make this easy broiled grapefruit with caramelized sugar recipe until I saw it on Two Peas, and Their Pod. I happened to have a grapefruit lying around so I made this for my husband and me last weekend. I loved the “crust” of sugar caramelized on top of the grapefruit and thought broiling it made it even sweeter and juicier than plain grapefruit. If you want an extra caramelized crust of sugar on top, sprinkle a thick layer of white or brown sugar on each half. I was trying to keep it fairly healthy so I only sprinkled on a bit. If you haven’t tried broiling grapefruit–give it a go!
Broiled Grapefruit with Caramelized Sugar
Ingredients
- 1 grapefruit sliced in half
- 2 tsp of white or brown sugar
How to Make Broiled Grapefruit with Caramelized Sugar
Preheat the oven to broil. Slice a grapefruit in half then sprinkle both halves with sugar. Side Note: Put a thicker layer of sugar on each half if you want a really caramelized crust.
Place on a baking sheet and put it on the middle rack to broil. Watch it very carefully so it doesn’t burn.
Remove it from the oven once the sugar has caramelized, about 2-3 minutes. Eat immediately. Enjoy.

Just so you k ow, your website did not update itself until today for me! I’ve been checking everyday. Hopefully all problems are fixed now!
Very simple indeed! I’ve done this before with a kitchen torch.. it was fast, but hard to not burn… surprisingly, this seems a little easier 🙂
What a great idea! I love broiled/roasted anything, and I can imagine this would really bring out the natural sugars in the grapefruit!
I’ve never tried grapefruit.
I’ve been meaning to do this, they look so good. I love grapefruit, can only imagine how good it is with a broiled sweet topping.
Glad you liked the broiled grapefruit! Such a fun treat!
I can’t wait to try this… going food shopping today and will be picking up some grapefruit!
What an innovative idea for a fruit that really requires sugar anyway!
Maria has the best recipes, doesn’t she? I love this different way to serve grapefruit.
I would never thought of broiling grapefruit. I wonder if you have to add the sugar, I like to eat my grapefruit without sugar.
