Peanut Butter & Bacon Dog Treats
I just gave our dog Grace her last dog treat from the freezer this past weekend so I made her a new batch today. I found a recipe for these homemade peanut butter and bacon dog treats on Sally’s Baking Addiction that I knew Grace would love because it features two of her VERY favorite things – peanut butter and bacon. I really liked that there are just a few ingredients in these homemade dog treats and they were super simple to make. My daughter actually thought I was baking the family something because they smelled so delicious while they baked! Grace was seriously drooling when I gave her the first treat – she devoured it in seconds and made sure to find any little crumb left behind. I’d say that’s a success.
How to Make Peanut Butter & Bacon Dog Treats
Preheat the oven to 325 degrees. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
Cook bacon in a skillet over medium heat until golden brown; drain paper towels. Chop into bits.
Whisk together the peanut butter, milk, and egg until well combined.
In a separate bowl, combine the flour and the baking powder; mix well.
Add the flour mixture to the peanut butter mixture until combined. Add the oats and bacon bits; mix well. The dough is thick and heavy.
Working on a lightly floured surface, knead the dough 3-4 times until it comes together. Using a rolling pin, roll the dough to 1/4-inch thickness.
Use a dog treat cutter to cut out the desired shape and place it onto the prepared baking sheet.
Place into oven and bake until the edges are golden brown, about 20-25 minutes. Remove from the oven and allow to cool completely on a wire rack.
Store in a sealed container in the refrigerator or freezer. My dog loves them right out of the freezer – especially on hot days! Enjoy.

LOL that last picture…you are a super mama, Pam. Peanut butter and bacon…that sounds like the BEST combo ever!
Wow! What dog could resist?
These are absolutely adorable!
I’m wondering if recipe should read 1 tsp of baking powder instead of 1 tbsp as t tablespoon seems excessive and potentially very salty bitter for the dog. Sylvia
No, it’s supposed to be 1 tablespoon which is what the original recipe called for. My dog absolutely LOVED these treats so I assume they didn’t taste salty & bitter.

I just made these this evening and my Gigi loved them. Very simple to make.
I’m so glad! Thanks for letting me know.

Wondering if these are soft or semi-soft treats. My dog is small and old so he has a hard time munching on hard/crunchy treats.
Kourtney,
They actually don’t get really crisp until you refrigerate or freeze them. I would still keep them in the refrigerator (so they last longer) but maybe just let them warm up a bit before serving to your dog. I hope your little one loves them as much as my Grace does!
-Pam
I wonder if we cook them a little less if that would keep them softer. I have a senior gal too and I worry about her not being able to chew them too good.
Make these all the time for my daughters dog they call them nana cookies he lives them so much so turns his nose up at store bought cookies. When you say nana cookies he goes crazy. I add 2-3 tablespoons extra milk and I stopped rolling them and just make balls and flatten with a glass. Thank you. For the recipe
Cirrine,
This makes me so happy! I’ve very glad nana cookies are such a hit with your grand-dog.

Hello,
I was just wondering what the best type of milk is best used ?
Lauren,
I used 2% milk. I hope your dog(s) enjoys these treats!
-Pam
Can I refrigerate the dough and roll and bake the next day?
I’ve made these 5-6 times and my dog loves them!!
Thanks!!
Janice,
I’ve never done that but I think it should be fine. Please let me know how they turn out if you try it.
-Pam
Can all purpose dlour be used instead of whole wheat?
Billie Goodman,
Absolutely!
-Pam
I’ve done 1/2 and refrigerated the other half and made in the next day or 2. It was actually a little easier to handle!
Janice,
Great tip! Thanks for taking the time to let us know. Hope your pup loves these treats.
-Pam
Thank you. Going to make some for my Layla tomorrow
do you think i can use outs insted of flour
David,
I’ve never tried it before so I’m not sure how it would turn out. Let me know how it goes if you give it a try.
I have another recipe that uses only oats along with cinnamon applesauce and eggs. Here is the link if you want to give it a try: https://fortheloveofcooking.net/2018/02/apple-cinnamon-oatmeal-dog-treats.html

How long will they last? They should be refrigerated, correct?
Tina,
They will last a few days on the counter. A couple weeks in the fridge and a month or longer in a ziplock in the freezer, which is what I do. I hope this helps.

Pam,
In my use up too much bacon project I thought I should take a little break from serving it to my family so I made these for my grand dog.
I use white flour instead of whole wheat because I didn’t have whole wheat and they turned out great. Doggie loves them, of course
Well, my three year-old grandson found them and didn’t care who they were for and they were cut into circles (I don’t have a bone shape cookie cutter).
Wants me to make the bacon dog cookies again for him.
HAAAAAA!!!
Anne,
I’m so glad your dog loves them!!! Thanks for always being so sweet with your commenting, Anne.
