Blackberry Simple Syrup
Since the blackberries I recently bought were much too tart to eat plain, I decided to use some of them to make this blackberry simple syrup. You can use this simple syrup to make Italian sodas, flavored lemonade, and adult beverages. It’s super simple to make and is great to have on hand.
How to Make Blackberry Simple Syrup
Combine the blackberries, water, sugar, and lemon juice together in a large saucepan over medium-high heat. Bring to a boil and mash the berries with a potato masher. Turn the stove off and allow the flavors to mingle for 10 minutes.
Pour the mixture through a very fine strainer into a glass jar. Store sealed with an airtight lid in the refrigerator. Enjoy.

Any chance you could make this with stevia or some other sweetener other than sugar?
Espresso Jo,
I’ve never tried using anything other than sugar so I’m not sure. If you give it a try, please let me know how it goes!

How long will this simple syrup last in the refrigerator?
Jackie,
We use it up within a month, so I’m not sure how long it would keep.

Pour this syrup into a plastic container and freeze. When ready to use, scoop out into a glass and add club soda. Adults may wish to add vodka or gin! I do this with rhubarb and strawberries too!
T. Allen,
What a terrific idea!!!! Thanks for sharing.
