Mixed Berry Dessert Sauce
I made this mixed berry dessert sauce for my daughter’s recent birthday. Year after year she loves to have waffles for breakfast on her birthday, smothered with strawberry fruit sauce. This year, I decided to make it a little extra special by using blueberries, raspberries, and strawberries. I cooked most of the fruit down with the sugar and lemon juice until it was thickened then blended it together with my immersion blender. Next, I added the remaining fruit to the blended sauce and let it simmer for 10 minutes before pouring it into a jar to cool. This mixed berry dessert sauce is a wonderful topping for breakfast favorites like waffles, pancakes, and crepes. It’s also a wonderful drizzled-on cake, ice cream, and of course cheesecake. The mixed berry sauce was a big hit with my kids–especially the birthday girl.
How to Make a Mixed Berry Dessert Sauce
Wash and prepare the fruit, set aside a few strawberry slices, a few raspberries, and a few blueberries to add to the sauce after blending.
Heat the remaining strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, sugar, and lemon juice together in a saucepan over medium-high heat. Bring to a simmer and cook, stirring often, for 10-15 minutes or until the fruit is broken down and the sauce is slightly thickened. Blend with an immersion blender until smooth.
Add the remaining fruit and simmer on low for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally. Pour the fruit sauce into a jar and cool completely. Store in a tightly sealed jar in the refrigerator. Enjoy.
