Homemade Hot Chocolate
This is my husband’s hot chocolate recipe he’s been making since he was ten! This easy homemade hot chocolate recipe is creamy, slightly sweet, and perfectly chocolaty. He serves it with whipped cream and a few mini chocolate chips sprinkled on top. My kids love this hot chocolate and always look forward to their dad making it for them.
Homemade Hot Chocolate
Ingredients:
- 6 cups whole milk
- 4 tbsp sugar, or more to taste
- 2½ tbsp cocoa powder, or more to taste
- ½ tsp vanilla extract
Serving:
- Whipped cream, if desired
- Mini chocolate chips, if desired
How to Make Homemade Hot Chocolate
Simmer the milk in a large saucepan over low heat until very warm. Side Note: Do not let the milk come to a boil!
Add the sugar and chocolate to the warm milk; whisk until well combined. Taste and add more sugar or chocolate, to taste, if needed.
Serve immediately topped with whipped cream and mini chocolate chips. Enjoy.

This is how my Mom makes hot chocolate… must be a Pritzl or maybe a Miller recipe. I miss having yummy whole milk so my attempts are not as good as I remember…. sigh. Hope you all have a happy 2016. We will see all of you at the next family gathering. Hot chocolate anyone!?
