Cherry Sauce
There was a big sale on cherries at my local store so I grabbed a bunch and surprised my kids with this cherry sauce to serve over ice cream. It turned out sweet, delicious, and absolutely wonderful. My son especially loved it and enjoyed it nightly over ice cream until it disappeared. It was a very simple dessert sauce to make and a terrific way to take advantage of summer produce.
How to Make a Cherry Sauce
Combine the pitted cherries, water, sugar, cornstarch, and orange zest together in a saucepan over medium-high heat. Bring to a boil then reduce heat and cook, stirring often, for 15 minutes. Add the vanilla extract, if using.
Cool slightly then serve over ice cream. Store in a sealed container in the refrigerator. Enjoy.

Bought some cherries yesterday too, but I don’t think there is enough left for the sauce LOL..Your sauce looks great, Pam.
Our weather certainly messed up the cherries this year thankfully I have still got some frozen from last year. Keep well Diane
Yes! Over ice cream – so good. Great recipe.
Can someone show me where to buy a de-pitter (?). I can’t even get my grand-kids to eat them because of the pits. What’s the world coming to???
I really love this website you do such a wonderful job!
Thank you!
The ONLY problem with this is that I would probably spend most of my time eating it straight from the fridge with a spoon!
