Pumpkin Banana Dog Treats

Our dog Grace recently ran out of dog treats so my daughter and I made her a new batch this weekend from a recipe I found on Pook’s Pantry. These healthy dog treats are made with whole wheat flour, pumpkin puree, banana, and eggs–thankfully, ingredients I had on hand. The dough was a bit sticky so we added a little more flour until it felt right and we could roll it out easily. Grace was eager to try these pumpkin banana dog treats and gobbled her first one down in seconds while eagerly awaiting a second treat. I think that means she loves them.

How to Make Pumpkin Banana Dog Treats

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Line a baking sheet with a Silpat mat.

Mix the pumpkin, mashed banana, and beaten eggs together until well combined. Add the flour and mix until combined. Use more flour as needed if the dough is too sticky.

Dust the counter with flour and roll out the dough to approximately 1/4″ thickness and use a small dog treat cutter to cut out treats.

Place on the prepared baking sheet an inch apart. Place into the oven and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until golden brown and crisp.

Allow cooling on a rack completely before storing them in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 2-3 weeks.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup pumpkin puree

      I used my silicone molds and it worked great. I ran out of whole wheat flour and my dough was a bit too wet for rolling out. I used1 Tablespoon for both the paw print & bones and pushed it down with a spatula., baked 35 min and they were crunchy on outside and a bit cookie like on the inside. My dogs loved them.

    2. I just made these cookies for my miniature schnauzer. I cut the recipe in half because I make her small cookie bites. How long should I cook them? I cooked them for about 12 minutes, they were brown on the bottom and a little soft on top. Is that okay? I didn’t want to burn them. Thank you!

      Baking time will depend on how small your treats are. You will need to go with your gut–bake until golden brown and crisp on the bottom. Just keep an eye on them until you think they look baked through.

  2. I made these dog treats for my 2 blacklabs they absolutely love them after having these they no longer will eat store bought dog treats and I’m great with that knowing these are healthy and not full of the garbage store bought ones are..thx for the recipe

    I made these for my grandpuppies. I used brown rice flour and I added a couple tablespoons of bacon bits. I also used two bananas so I had to add more flour. I’m not a baker but I love making dog cookies! I keep the cookies in the freezer. My grandpuppies are large dogs so being frozen just makes them extra crunchy!

    We have made these for our sweet Otis for 5 years now and they are always a hit! I throw a lot of parties for the dogs in our apartment building and these are always a go to! Great recipe and super easy and fast!

    My daughter and I agree that we love eating them too! Too bad for Sami and Bella – a few less for them! We doubled the recipe and offered a gift tin to our new mini doodle pair across the street – great way to make new fwends 😉

    I substituted Wheat Bran and added 1/3 cup Adam natural peanut butter, needed more flour as the dough was too moist. All in all my dog loves the organic treats!

    My dog loves this recipe. I was wondering if u had to store it in the fridge of if you could just leave it on the counter?

      I store them in the freezer to last the longest but they will also last a couple weeks in the fridge. They will mold quicker if you leave them on the counter. I hope this helps.

  8. I made these yesterday and they’re not hard and crunchy. Are they supposed to be? Mine are more of a soft, bread like biscuit. Anyone else?

      They should harden as they cool but depending on your altitude, you may have needed a longer baking time? I’m at sea level. I hope your pup still enjoyed them.

    Thanks for sharing this amazing recipe! I was looking for a new flavor other than the old faithful “Peanut butter and banana” recipe. Although my dogs (and all the neighbors dogs) love that one, they clearly have a new favorite! And right at Thanksgiving too!   10. Has anybody tried ground oatmeal instead of wheat flour? My pitty baby is super allergic to like everything. lol! But oatmeal is helpful. I would love to try that if it’ll work.

    Second time making this, in a medium dog biscuit silicon mold. So perfect for all dog sizes since they are soft enough to break into pieces, yet they don’t crumble. I love that result! And they DO smell delicious when baking!!
