Banana Bread with Chocolate Chips and Toasted Walnuts

Banana Bread with Chocolate Chips and Toasted Walnuts

We had yet another rainy spring day here in Oregon, so my kids and I decided to bake a loaf of banana bread with chocolate chips and toasted walnuts. The kids and I had a fun time baking together, but had even more fun eating hot banana bread with melted butter fresh from the oven. I used mini chocolate chips because I had them, but I am sure regular chocolate chips would work.

How to Make Banana Bread with Chocolate Chips and Toasted Walnuts:

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease and flour an 8½-inch loaf pan.

Sift flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt into a large bowl and mix thoroughly; set aside.

In another bowl, mash bananas, egg, sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, butter, and vanilla together, then mix thoroughly.

Slowly add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and mix well. Once the batter is well combined, add the chocolate chips and toasted walnuts, then stir.  Side Note: Toast the walnuts in a small dry skillet over medium heat, stirring frequently for 3-4 minutes, and remove from the heat to cool completely.

Pour ingredients into the prepared loaf pan.

Bake in the oven for 40-45 minutes or until a knife inserted into the center comes out clean.

Remove from oven & let cool for a few minutes before cutting.

Serve while it’s warm, slathered with butter. Enjoy!
