Baked Mozzarella Sticks
I made this easy baked mozzarella sticks recipe for my kids’ afternoon snack, and they were terrific! This homemade mozzarella sticks recipe couldn’t be easier to make, and tasted great. My kids thought they were the best after-school snack and wished I had made more.
Baked Mozzarella Sticks
Ingredients:
- 4 cheese sticks, cut in half, then placed into the freezer until frozen
- ¼ cup flour
- ½ cup Italian panko
- 1 egg
- Marinara, for dipping, store-bought or homemade
How to Make Baked Mozzarella Sticks
Cut the cheese sticks in half, place them in a ziplock bag, and put them into the freezer for a few hours. Side Note: They need to be frozen so the cheese doesn’t ooze out while the panko browns in the oven.
Preheat the oven to 400 degrees. Use the convection setting if you have it. Line a baking sheet with foil or parchment paper, then coat well with olive oil cooking spray.
Place the flour in a shallow bowl.
Place the seasoned panko crumbs in a separate shallow bowl.
Crack the egg into a shallow bowl and whisk until very well combined.
Roll the frozen cheese stick in the flour until well coated, then roll into the egg mixture until well coated, then roll into the panko mixture until well coated.
Place on the prepared baking sheet; repeat with the remaining sticks.
Coat the top of the sticks with cooking spray.
Place into the oven and bake for 4-5 minutes.
Carefully flip them over and continue to cook for 4 minutes. Side Note: Do not overcook or the cheese will ooze out. Trust me!!!
Remove from the oven and place on a serving plate. Serve immediately with warm marinara sauce. Enjoy!

I love cheese and these look delicioud Pam:)
I can’t tell you how many failed Mozzarella Sticks I’ve had in my days, Pam. I finally learned the frozen method but, never tried the Panko. That will be next! Thanks for sharing, Pam…
Those look amazing!
They look scrumptious!
I love mozzarella sticks, and like you I haven’t had much luck making them at home. Your recipe looks perfect! I can’t wait to try it!
These look SO delicious. Do you think they’d go with my coffee for breakfast?? 🙂
I would never have thought of putting them in the freezer first, what a great idea. I like to nibble on mozzarella when it is cold and on pizza of course, but I would love to try these. I had them once in a restaurant a long time ago and it would be fun to serve them up at home. Another great recipe, thank you.
Aha! The freezer is the secret!
I’m glad you’re enjoying your present. I enjoy brightening others’ days.
Anything cheesey has my name on it. 🙂 These look terrific — and I love the freezer trick. Great recipe — thanks.
Yum – this is a favorite in our house.I like that they were baked and not fried.
No wonder the children loved them.
I could eat the whole pan of these. Singlehandedly.
Hi Pam, great dish! How about adding it to the Food on Friday: Cheese collection over at Carole’s Chatter? Cheers
Great idea for the sauce. Looks awesome and perfectly cooked.
I have to say these are GREAT. Better than the restaurant and less fat…
No frying needed for these beauties……
I had to do a trial run for the SUPERBOWL PARTY.
I have to say they where a hit on a trial run!
I’m making them for the Bowl part along with Jalapino poppers.
All the above where done on a trial run basis.
Very easy, even for the NON cooker.
GO PATRIOTS!!!!
Thanks for the recipe….
