Baked Mozzarella Sticks
I have been seeing these around at several food blogs recently and I wanted to give them a try. Sadly, I have bad luck with cooking mozzarella sticks. While at my sister’s house, I have ruined two batches of store-bought sticks by overcooking them and all the cheese oozes out. I decided to go ahead and try making them very carefully and thankfully they turned out great! My kids both thought they were the best after-school snack and wished that I had made more. This is quite the compliment for me because my daughter doesn’t care for cheese! The mozzarella sticks seriously couldn’t be easier to make and tasted great. My kids asked if I could make them again tomorrow and I gladly said yes.
How to Make Baked Mozzarella Sticks
Cut the cheese sticks in half then place them in a ziplock bag and put them into the freezer for a couple of hours. They need to be frozen so the cheese doesn’t ooze out while browning the panko.
Preheat the oven to 400 degrees. Line a baking sheet with tin foil then coat with cooking spray.
Place the flour on a plate. Place the panko on a separate plate. Put the egg into a bowl and whisk until well combined. Roll the cheese stick in the flour until well coated, then roll into the egg mixture until well coated, then roll into the panko mixture until well coated. Place on the prepared baking sheet. Repeat with the remaining sticks. Coat the top of the sticks with cooking spray.
Place into the oven and bake for 4-5 minutes. Carefully flip them over and continue to cook for 4 minutes, be careful not to overcook or the cheese will ooze out. Trust me. Remove from the oven and place on a plate and serve immediately with warm marinara sauce. Enjoy!

I love cheese and these look delicioud Pam:)
I can’t tell you how many failed Mozzarella Sticks I’ve had in my days, Pam. I finally learned the frozen method but, never tried the Panko. That will be next! Thanks for sharing, Pam…
Those look amazing!
They look scrumptious!
I love mozzarella sticks, and like you I haven’t had much luck making them at home. Your recipe looks perfect! I can’t wait to try it!
These look SO delicious. Do you think they’d go with my coffee for breakfast?? 🙂
I would never have thought of putting them in the freezer first, what a great idea. I like to nibble on mozzarella when it is cold and on pizza of course, but I would love to try these. I had them once in a restaurant a long time ago and it would be fun to serve them up at home. Another great recipe, thank you.
Aha! The freezer is the secret!
I’m glad you’re enjoying your present. I enjoy brightening others’ days.
Anything cheesey has my name on it. 🙂 These look terrific — and I love the freezer trick. Great recipe — thanks.
Yum – this is a favorite in our house.I like that they were baked and not fried.
No wonder the children loved them.
I could eat the whole pan of these. Singlehandedly.
Hi Pam, great dish! How about adding it to the Food on Friday: Cheese collection over at Carole’s Chatter? Cheers
Great idea for the sauce. Looks awesome and perfectly cooked.
I have to say these are GREAT. Better than the restaurant and less fat…
No frying needed for these beauties……
I had to do a trial run for the SUPERBOWL PARTY.
I have to say they where a hit on a trial run!
I’m making them for the Bowl part along with Jalapino poppers.
All the above where done on a trial run basis.
Very easy, even for the NON cooker.
GO PATRIOTS!!!!
Thanks for the recipe….
