Spicy Chicken Wings
I decided to bake my husband some chicken wings this weekend using a recipe I found on Simply Recipes. I marinated the wings with his favorite hot sauce, Frank’s Red Hot, and some seasonings for a few hours before broiling them. They turned out moist, tender, SPICY, and really delicious – he loved them. They went really nicely with the blue cheese dressing that I served on the side.
How to Make Spicy Chicken Wings
Combine the butter, hot sauce, paprika, sea salt, cayenne pepper, and freshly cracked pepper together in a bowl. Mix well then pour half of the marinade into a large zip lock bag. Place the chicken wings into the bag with the marinade then seal.
Combine the chicken wings in the sauce until evenly coated. Place into the refrigerator for 6 hours. Place the other half of the extra sauce/marinade into a covered dish then place into the refrigerator for later use.
Remove the chicken (and the extra marinade) from the refrigerator 30 minutes prior to cooking.
Heat the oven to broil. Coat a broiler pan with cooking spray then place the wings on the broiler pan, discarding the used marinade. Place the chicken under the broiler about 4-5 inches from the heat; cook for 10 minutes on each side, watching carefully so it doesn’t burn.
Remove the chicken from the oven and baste with the remaining sauce. Place back under the broiler and cook for 2-3 minutes or until the chicken is tender and no longer pink. Remove from the oven and baste with any extra sauce before putting it on a serving plate. Serve the chicken wings with blue cheese dressing. Enjoy.

Hi Pam! Chicken wings bring me back to college days. I remember going to happy hour and devouring them with a side of blue cheese dressing and a tall glass of beer.
My hubby would love it if I made him a plate of these while he was watching his favorite game. They seem easy enough so maybe I will surprise him on Superbowl Sunday.
I love chicken wings! I really must try them with the blue cheese dressing!
Hello Pam, lovely spicy chicken wings!

I think I could convert my hubs to eat hot stuff looking at this yummee chicken bites….thank you!
I have no idea what Frank’s Original is but I guess it is a hot sauce of some kind. This sounds like it would be great with my turkey wings. Keep well Diane

I love this time of year and seeing all of the different varieties of wing recipes, and yours looks delicious! Just the fact you used Frank’s alone makes this a stand out. Great post!

Wow, I love these wings. These wings would have my tastebuds dancing.
I love chicken wings and baked means I can have many without worrying much about the calories.. Thanks for posting a lovely recipe!
Poor angel lost his wings, ha ha. Just kidding.
You know I’m a big wing fan and these look like some tasty ones, Pam. I’m sure they disappeared quickly.
Did you use salted or unsalted butter?
Tiffany,
I used salted butter. I hope this helps.
Cheers,
Pam
These look really good! I made some wings on Sunday, which were ok, but I baked them and then tossed them in the hot sauce mix…I think marinading would have added to the flavor. Next time I will try this recipe.I cringed at using an entire stick of butter, lol…but what are you gonna do? My husband is from upstate ny and swears Frank’s + butter is the only way to go 🙂 And the bleu cheese dressing is a must to cool the burn!
will this work if i BBQ instead of broil? thank you, love your blog
I am sure it will work just fine! I hope you enjoy them as much as we did.
Cheers,
Pam
Hi Pam
12 wings, is that 12 whole wings cut up to make 24 pieces or 6 whole wings cut up to make 12 pieces.
6 whole wings to make 12 pieces. I hope this helps.
Cheers,
Pam
Greetings from Australia!
I just tried your recipe and have to say, it was absolutely sensational. I baked mine on my Weber Kettle, and they came out perfect! Spicy, with a lovely afterburn. Thank you for sharing this new, permanent addition to my arsenal of recipes.
Dimitri,
I’m so glad you like the wings! Thanks for letting me know.
