Sweet and Salty Popcorn Treat
My kids didn’t have school today, so I surprised them with a sweet and salty popcorn treat while watching a movie. What could be better than buttery popcorn combined with salty pretzels, white chocolate chips, and milk chocolate chips? Both of my kids loved their little bowlfuls and devoured the popcorn with big smiles on their faces. I split the remaining popcorn treat equally into little baggies, which will be perfect for this week’s school lunch treat.
Sweet and Salty Popcorn Treat
Ingredients:
- 1 tbsp coconut oil
- 1/4 cup popcorn kernels
- 1 tbsp butter, or more to taste
- Handful of mini pretzels
- 2-3 tbsp milk chocolate chips
- 2-3 tbsp white chocolate chips
How to Make Sweet and Salty Popcorn Treat
Heat the coconut oil in a large saucepan over medium-high heat. Once the oil is HOT add the corn kernels and a pinch of salt. Place the lid on the saucepan and shake the pan every 10-15 seconds until the corn starts to pop.
Once the kernels start popping, shake the pan continuously and vigorously. Listen closely to the popcorn, when you hear the popping begin to slow, 1 to 2 seconds between pops, remove the pan from the heat. DO NOT wait for every kernel to pop or you’ll burn the popcorn.
Take the saucepan off the heat. Pour the melted butter over the popcorn then mix well to coat the popcorn evenly with the butter.
Season with sea salt, to taste. Let the popcorn cool for a few minutes.
Add the pretzels, white chocolate chips, and milk chocolate chips to the top of the popcorn. Toss to mix well. Pour into small bowls and serve. Enjoy!

This is a very tasty snack, for both kids and adults! Great idea 🙂
This looks better than any trail mix or chex mix I’ve ever had!
this is such a quick and simple treat! great blend of textures and types of flavors, pam–perfect movie-watching food!
A great spin on chocolate covered pretzels! I’m sure this will be a great lunch box treat, too. Mark had the day off yesterday for President’s Day, and then today school was delayed, then cancelled, due to ice! It’s nice to have them around for a long weekend, isn’t it?
This looks like a great snack – healthy also.
I usually use bacon fat to cook my popcorn but next time I’ll try coconut oil like you have
A healthy and fun snack!
