Plum Galette

Plum Galette

Galettes are one of my favorite quick, easy desserts I love to make.  I really like baking them because they are simple, rustic, and use whatever fruit you have on hand. To make them even easier, I use a store-bought pie crust. I had a few plums in the fruit bowl that my kids weren’t too interested in, so I decided to make a galette for dessert. My kids suddenly loved those plums! We all thought this easy plum galette recipe was a beautiful and delicious dessert.

Plum Galette

Ingredients:

  • 1 pie crust
  • 3 plums, sliced thinly
  • 2 tbsp white sugar, more or less depending on the sweetness of the fruit
  • 1 tsp cornstarch
  • 1 egg, well-beaten
  • Raw or turbinado sugar

How to Make a Plum Galette:

Preheat the oven to 375 degrees. Line a baking sheet with a silpat mat.

Slice the plums thinly. Place the plum slices into a bowl and sprinkle the sugar and cornstarch on top. Gently mix the fruit (I used my fingers) until the sugar and cornstarch coat them.

Place the plum slices in a spiral inside the pie crust, starting one inch from the edge.

Fold the outer dough edges over the fruit.

Brush the dough with the beaten egg, then sprinkle the edges with the raw or turbinado sugar.

Bake for 40-45 minutes, or until golden brown.

Remove the galette from the oven and let cool for 20-30 minutes on a wire cooling rack before slicing.

Serve plain, with whipped cream, or vanilla ice cream. Enjoy.
