How to Make Chicken Gyros with Tzatziki Sauce
Make the tzatziki sauce. Click here for a link to the recipe.
Whisk together the olive oil, lemon juice, red wine vinegar, minced garlic, oregano, and a pinch of crushed red pepper, to taste in a Ziploc bag. Add the chicken breasts and marinate in the refrigerator for 1 hour. Remove from the zip lock bag and place on a plate. Season both sides with sea salt and freshly cracked pepper, to taste.
Preheat a grill pan that has been coated in cooking spray over medium heat. Place the seasoned chicken in the grill pan and cook for 8-10 minutes before flipping over and cooking for an additional 7-8 minutes, or until the chicken has cooked through. Allow the chicken to rest for a few minutes on a cutting board before slicing into thin strips.
Warm your pita bread in the microwave for 20 seconds. Top the pita with the tzatziki sauce, sliced chicken, mixed greens, tomatoes, red onion, and feta cheese. Wrap in tin foil and serve. Enjoy.

This is one of my favourite meals by far.
Pam, This looks great and excellent sauce!!!!
I love the sound of these, they’d make a perfect lunch!
You should seriously open a restaurant!
Any time we go out and they have Gyros on the menu, Chris will order it. I have only made them once at home… maybe I should change that… he would LOVE these!
I love gyros with tzatziki sauce. These look delicious! Great post!
Absolutely delicious and so colourful!!
Cheers,
Lia.
My family will go nuts for this. I hope you post that delicious looking corn salad, too!
Hi Kim!!!
I don’t think that it is corn. It looks like large size cous cous (I think is called Israeli cous cous), with vegetables and chickpeas. I also would like to have the recipe.
Regards.
Love, love, love gyros. thanks for the recipe!
I’ll bet the kids just love meals they can eat with their fingers – and, yes, hubbies can be kids about that kind of thing, too! It looks like a tasty dinner, Pam.
I really like gyros and yours looks sooo good – I’m impressed you even wrapped it in foil.
YUM, my kind of dinner, so fresh and delicious looking! I’m always in the mood for Greek or Meditteranean
This is one of my favorite sandwiches, and I love anything with a good tzatziki on it.
One of my favorite foods. These look so yummy!
My husband’s favourite meal! He is so crazy for gyros!
No better eating than this. Very good looking recipe.
I’m such a sucker for anything wrapped in flatbread! These sound great!
i do NOT love lamb gyros, but the chicken variety is definitely a favorite. nice recipe!
I haven’t had a chicken gyro before, this sounds tasty, Pam. Any excuse for making tzatziki sauce is good to me.
Oh my!!! These look soooo good!!! Think I may have to surprise my hubby with some of these!!
Pam, What’s the side dish called? Where can I find the recipe for it please?
It looks kike a great pairing with the Chicken Gyros.
Thanks
Anastasia
Anastasia,
It’s Mediterranean Couscous. Here is the link: https://www.fortheloveofcooking.net/2013/08/mediterranean-pasta-salad-2.html
Cheers,
Pam
Made this recently and it was so fresh and tasty
My friends loved it! Thank you
Will make this often
Great recipe! Where do you get your Greek Pitas, online? I have not seen this brand in my supermarket. Thanks
Angeline,
Thank you. I actually buy that brand of pita in my local Safeway grocery store here in Oregon. I’m sure you can find them online if you can’t find them in your stores. Hope this helps.

I would call this more of a Chicken Schwarma than gyro….it has that bright lemon/oregano flavor that is characteristic of schwarma. That being said, it was a yummy, light Sunday noon meal and made great leftovers! I find that soaking the red onions in cold water for a few minutes make them much less pungent….
Julie,
I’m so glad you enjoyed dit and the leftovers. Soaking red onions in ice water to mellow their strong flavor is a great tip.
