Apple Galette with Crumble Topping
We had some kids staying with us for the weekend so I made them this easy Apple Galette with Crumble Topping for dessert one evening. The apple pie smelled heavenly while baking and tasted extra special when served a la mode with vanilla ice cream. All of the kids loved this apple galette and devoured every bite.
Apple Galette with Crumble Topping
Apple Galette:
- 1 pie crust
- 2-3 apples, peeled & thinly sliced
- Zest of a small orange
- 2 tbsp white sugar (more or less depending on the sweetness of the fruit)
- 2 tsp cornstarch
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/8 tsp ground nutmeg
- 1/8 tsp ground cloves
- 1 beaten egg
- Turbinado sugar
Topping:
- 1/2 cup old-fashioned oats
- 2 tbsp brown sugar
- 1/2 tsp cinnamon
- 3 tbsp butter, softened, cut into bits
How to Make an Apple Galette with Crumble Topping
Preheat the oven to 375 degrees. Line a baking sheet with a silpat mat.
Place the apple slices into a bowl and sprinkle the zest, sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, and cornstarch. Gently stir the fruit until the apples are evenly coated.
Place the apple slices in a spiral inside the pie crust starting one inch from the edge. Fold the edge of the dough over the fruit. Brush the dough with the beaten egg. Sprinkle the edges with the raw sugar.
To make the topping, combine the oatmeal, brown sugar, cinnamon, and butter in a small bowl. Mix well with fingers until crumbly.
Sprinkle crumble mixture along the inner edges of the folded crust and some in the center of the pie.
Place into the oven and bake for 40-45 minutes or until golden brown.
Remove the galette from the oven and let cool for 5-10 minutes before slicing.
Serve plain, with whipped cream, or vanilla ice cream. Enjoy.

Awesome dessert! Love the crumbles. Perfect for fall!
I love the great rustic look of a galette! Haven’t had one with a crumb topping — that’s brilliant! Good stuff — thanks.
smart kids! and equally smart chaperone–this looks delicious!
It may sound weird, but I don’t like raw apples. They are way too hard for me, but this recipe I like!! 🙂
I’ve been in pie mode this week so now I have an excuse to make another one!
Love galettes – great pie without much fuss. I like that you added a crumb topping. I have to remember that.
Lucky kids! This galette looks wonderful. So good I even forgive it from screaming FALL! 😛
