Simple Spicy Salsa
I was making Carne Asada Tacos for dinner for one of my best friends who was coming to town for one night. I usually make the Roasted Tomato Salsa but since it was in the 80’s today, I didn’t want to heat up the house with the oven. I grabbed a few things and threw this salsa together – I am so glad I did! It was tangy, spicy, and full of flavor! We all liked this salsa, including my daughter. She didn’t care that it was so spicy because she loved the flavor so much. My son, on the other hand, said it was too spicy for him.
How to Make a Simple Spicy Salsa
Combine the tomatoes, diced onion, diced green onion, serrano pepper(s), garlic, lime juice, cumin, oregano, coriander, sea salt, and freshly cracked pepper, to taste, together in a bowl. Blend well using an immersion blender. Taste and re-season if needed. Cover and set aside for at least 30 minutes prior to using it. Serve with chips. Enjoy.
Ingredients
- 1 can of diced tomatoes with green chiles
- ¼ sweet yellow onion diced
- 1 green onion sliced
- 1-2 serrano chiles stems removed, chopped
- ¼ cup fresh cilantro chopped
- 1 clove of garlic minced
- Juice from 1/2 a lime
- ¼ tsp cumin
- ¼ tsp oregano
- ⅛ tsp coriander
Instructions
- Combine the tomatoes, diced onion, diced green onion, serrano pepper, garlic, lime juice, cumin, oregano, coriander, sea salt, and freshly cracked pepper, to taste, together in a bowl. Blend well using an immersion blender. Taste and re-season if needed. Cover and set aside for at least 30 minutes prior to using it. Serve with chips. Enjoy.

Mmh, this salsa looks so tasty and is easy to prepare.
Fantastic recipe when you don’t have to much time but still want to prepare a spicy treat.
I too love salsa almost everyday, the nice fresh taste of cilantro and really good tomatoes.
Mmmm. Hubby, thankfully, eats this too. It’s rare to get him to eat veggies.
We love homemade salsa. Great, simple recipe!
This salsa is definitely a winner!
Kisses!
Homemade salsa is so good. Spicier the better.
My family loves homemade salsa…the hotter the better! Yum!
It’s hard to beat grabbing a few things, throwing them together and getting a delicious result.

Such a great shortcut since you didn’t feel like roasting!
I can eat this every day! Thanks for sharing, Pam.
